Scared of facing the inside of a British prison cell, social media controversy magnets Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate are dropping the tough guy act and admitting that they’re a bunch of vain frauds.
In recent court filings, legal representatives for the manosphere influencers claimed that they deliberately portray themselves as far wealthier than they actually are because their “business model depends on online attention.”
The Bugattis they tool around in? The yachts they booze on? The gaudy watches they flaunt? It’s all a lie, they admitted in humiliating legal documents.
“Andrew and Tristan are social media personalities. Their business model depends on online attention,” the lawyers wrote in a court filing, as quoted by The Guardian.
“The outrageousness of the posts by them and about them is the point,” it continued. “The more hyperbolic and outlandish the post, the more likely it will generate views and likes, which in turn generates income. In short, they are playing a role.”
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The brothers ooze “grift” as much as they spew unbridled misogyny. Still, it’s amusing to see them forced to admit that their macho, F-You-Money routine is really a giant game of playing billionaire-pretend.
A superyacht that they filmed themselves on, for example, was really a promotion for the ship they were paid to do. “The ‘superyacht’ does not belong to the Tates,” the lawyers clarified.
They don’t own their cool super cars, either: “the $2.1 million Aston Martin and $5 million and $7 million Bugattis featured in Tristan’s videos were rented.”
What about the multiple times that Andrew Tate has boasted pretty explicitly that his posts generate him hundreds of millions of dollars? A vast exaggeration, we’re shocked to be informed.
“All of these posts are hyperbole,” his lawyers wrote.
The brothers Tate were arrested by federal marshals in Miami last month, after years of being investigated by several foreign authorities. Following their arrests, the UK’s Crown Prosecution service said it was bringing new charges against the duo related to alleged offenses involving four women that took place between 2010 and 2017.
Andrew Tate’s charges include seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, and over a dozen charges related to sexual images of children and “extreme pornography.” The brothers are also facing criminal charges in Romania, where investigators say they trafficked women into the porn businesses.
The UK is seeking to extradite the Tate brothers, and British prosecutors have urged that the brothers not be released on bail, arguing they’re a flight risk.
The meek admissions from the Tates is markedly different to the defiant attitude their lawyer Joseph D. McBride struck earlier this month, when he vowed that he would get the Trump administration — which the brothers are closely tied with — to personally intervene if the court allows their extradition.
“We will go straight to president Trump’s office,” Bridge proclaimed.
